Special Guest: TORU HARADA

JDFF is pleased to welcome Toru Harada as a special guest at the 2025 Film Festival. He has worked with some of Japan’s biggest directors and actors, and most recently on the hit TV show “SHOGUN”.

In particular, he worked as Ass. Director on “Battle Royale”. He will be sharing various episodes related to the production of the film at the talk-show following the screening of “Battle Royale”.

TORU HARADA 

Born in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture on September 8, 1955

In 1978 he graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Film Planning.

He has worked as an assistant director on a number of directors. Shinoda, Kinji Fukasaku, Hideo Gosha, Hiroshi Teshigawara, Eiichi Kudo, Kazuo Kuroki

In 1992, he made his directorial debut with “Windmill Hamayoshi” starring Tatsuya Nakadai.

After that, he directed a TV historical drama starring Tsutomu Yamazaki, Koji Yakusho, and Ken Watanabe.

He worked in Hollywood as a trainee for overseas artists of the Agency for Cultural Affairs 2021 and became a Technical Supervisor for the Award winning TV Show production “SHOGUN”.
